Have you ever been to a chiropractor before? If not pregnancy is an amazing time to start! Good chiropractic care encourages baby to be in the optimal fetal position, your hips to provide the most room for baby to descend, and your sacrum the upmost mobility. All of this can mean cutting hours off your labor time! It also can shorten your pushing stage, could prevent a transport for a baby that wont descent and could even lower your risk of a cesarean. Of course we can’t guarantee these benefits but we have seen them to be true time and time again.
Chiropractic can also help with those aches and pain that come with pregnancy. When you are more comfortable you get to enjoy your pregnancy more!
How does chiropractic do all this?
Chiropractors are highly trained to feel and adjust the skeletal structure to ensure optimal alignment. Throughout our day to day lives we can be come tight, locked up and generally just not right! Modern chairs lend to our hips being locked up, twisted, or uneven. When our hips, sacrum, or pubic bone are not where they are supposed to be or lack the mobility they should have we are making it much harder for our baby’s to navigate through the pelvis at birth. This can add hours to our labor or even make transport necessary.
The great news is chiropractic (and other body work) can go a long ways to prevent position and hip issues.
Here are some things you should know…
You need a chiropractor that is good at pregnancy! Even if you have been getting regular care from someone and they do a wonderful job does not mean that they should adjust you while you are pregnant. It is imperative to find a chiropractor who’s primary specialty is pregnancy so he/she has lots of experience and expertise. A chiropractor who does not specialize in this area can actually make things worse not better! Two good questions to ask are if they are familiar with the Webster Technique and how frequently they see pregnant clients. We have several amazing chiropractors we are happy to refer you to as well!
Chiropractic can make your pregnancy more comfortable and your labors shorter! It is worth the investment!
